Everyone occasionally needs to give a shout-out!
This month, I would like to introduce Speak for Animals, a nonprofit organization based in Greenville, SC. They started in 2003 with a small group united by a passion for giving animals a voice. Their advocacy focuses on compassionate, responsible care, saving lives through low-cost spay/neuter programs. This became the core mission of their organization. They also recognized the lack of transportation and financial resources in low-income areas and launched a Spay-Mania outreach program to meet people where they live and provide services.
Overall Mission
To improve animals’ lives through various initiatives, including affordable spay and neuter programs, partnerships with dedicated veterinarians, community outreach, humane education, and more. Through these efforts, their volunteers and committed partners help Speak for Animals achieve great things in the Upstate community.
How It All Began
When Speak for Animals first began, the 29611 zip code had a high number of strays and a significant level of animal neglect. At that time, it was the busiest intake zip code at the county’s open-admission shelter. Thanks to the hard work, determination, and focus of this group, the 29611 zip code is no longer the area with the highest intake in the Upstate!
Making the Upstate Better
Seeing organizations like this shows why the Upstate is a better place for everyone. Even if Speak for Animals doesn’t feel like they’re the best fit for a situation, they will try to help find the right resources or suggest that surrendering an animal to a shelter or rescue might be the best choice.
